Staring down at their first loss in nearly two months in Game 1 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the San Antonio Spurs needed just two words to spark a furious rally. Head coach Gregg Popovich told his experienced team to get a “little nasty”, and they did with a nine-point rally in the fourth quarter to win their 19th game in a row and take a 1-0 series lead. The Spurs are undefeated in the playoffs, just three wins away for reaching the NBA Finals for the first time since 2007.
The win tied San Antonio with the 2001 Los Angeles Lakers for longest winning streak from the regular season into the playoffs. It is just the fourth team in NBA history to record 19-straight overall.
Oddsmakers are expecting that streak to continue tonight in Game 2, listing San Antonio as a 5-point favorite in Bovada’s Thunder vs. Spurs Game 2 Betting Lines.
Manu Ginobli was San Antonio’s spark, going off for 26 points in his first meeting against Oklahoma City this year.
Oklahoma City came undone in the fourth quarter Monday night, allowing the Spurs to shoot 75 percent in the final quarter to turn the nine-point defecit into a 10-point lead. Ginobli scored 10 of his team’s points in a five-minute span. Gary Neal also poured in seven of his 12 points on the night. In the meantime, the Thunder made just one field goal during a horrific nine-minute stretch and recorded exactly zero steals or blocked shots.
Just another knotch in history, though. The Thunder have lost nine of their last 10 against the Spurs, including three of four this year.
